Black History Month 2023

University of Chicago alum Carter G. Woodson was dedicated to telling stories of Black Americans that had been overlooked and ignored by the academic establishment.

Woodson's devotion to the promotion of Black history led him to found what would later become Black History Month, an annual celebration of African American contributions to American history, life, and culture.

This February we're featuring a list of recent scholarship by Black authors that reflect the spirit of Woodson's academic mission to hold up the stories and achievements of Black people.
