Book Submissions

What to submit

If you wish to submit a book project, please write to one of our acquisitions editors by email, briefly introducing your work in the body of the message and attaching your proposal and curriculum vitae. We also welcome a sample chapter if available, but please do not send a complete manuscript unless invited. If you are not sure which editor should consider your work, write to our editorial director. Please do not send your submission to more than one editor. Profiles of our acquisitions editors and editorial director, with email addresses, are at the link above.

For proposal guidelines and other information, see our Submissions FAQ

Books we do not publish

We generally do not publish work outside the areas listed with the contact information for our acquisitions editors. We do not normally consider unrevised dissertations, and we do not publish Festschriften. We do not currently consider works of original fiction, only fiction in translation and reprints of classic novels. We do not consider contemporary poetry outside the context of our Phoenix Poets series, which is open to submissions during the month of November.

Unsolicited material

We discourage unsolicited submissions via post, especially during this time when most of our staff are working remotely. We cannot be responsible for any unsolicited manuscripts, photos, or artwork, and it is not our policy to return such materials. If you are invited to submit materials by post, please send them to the relevant editor at The University of Chicago Press, 1427 East 60th Street, Chicago, IL 60637 U.S.A.

See the list of our acquisitions editors for e-mail addresses.
