Heaven, Hell, and Other Places

A Film about Emanuel Swedenborg

Heaven, Hell and Other Places: A Film about Emanuel Swedenborg is an ideal introduction to the life and work of Emanuel Swedenborg (1688–1772), described by Jorge Luis Borges as “the most interesting man in recorded history.” Filmed on location in London, and Sweden, the documentary is presented by author and musician Philip Makatrewicz and features exclusive interviews with expert writers Gary Lachman, Lars Bergquist and many others. The film is beautifully shot and edited by the award-winning artists and filmmakers Cartwright and Jordan, with a soundtrack featuring new music by Kurt Benbenek and a classical score by Johann Sebastian Bach.

The companion publication contains a brand-new essay by Gary Lachman, “Introducing Swedenborg,” alongside a foreword by Philip Makatrewicz and an afterword by Stephen McNeilly about the making of the film. The book is lavishly illustrated with twenty photographs by Stephen McNeilly and packaged in a striking design by James Brook.
