Jane Dailey

Jane Dailey is associate professor of American history, the Law School, and the College at the University of Chicago. She is the author of Before Jim Crow: The Politics of Race in Postemancipation Virginia (UNC, 2000), The Age of Jim Crow: A Norton Casebook in History (Norton, 2008), and White Fright: The Sexual Panic at the Heart of America's Racist History (Norton, 2020). She is also the coauthor of Building the Republic, which we published in 2018, and the coeditor of Jumpin’ Jim Crow: Southern Politics from Civil War to Civil Rights (PUP, 2000).
