About the Author

Shadi Bartsch is the Ann L. and Lawrence B. Buttenwieser Professor in the Department of Classics at the University of Chicago. She is the author of numerous books, including Ideology in Cold Blood, Actors in the Audience, and The Mirror of the Self: Sexuality, Self-Knowledge, and the Gaze in the Early Roman Empire, the last published by the University of Chicago Press.
