E-books from the University of Chicago Press

Many books published by the University of Chicago Press are available in electronic format, via our own website and through distributors of e-books to libraries and individuals.

Chicago Digital Editions

Individuals can download e-books directly to your computer or handheld device and read them using free Digital Editions software from Adobe—available for PC, Mac, and other e-reader platforms.

We have two licensing options for most of our e-books:

  • Perpetual ownership at list price
  • 45-day ownership for $10.00

When you complete the purchase of an e-book through the University of Chicago Press shopping cart, you will receive an order confirmation and a link to download your e-book, as well as a link to Adobe’s Digital Editions software. (If you are unfamiliar with e-books, Adobe Digital Editions, or limitations on copying and printing, please read more details.)

Chicago Digital Editions are powered by BiblioVault, which provides digital file storage, management, publication, and distribution services to university presses and other not-for-profit publishers.
